MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) utilizes major advancements in technology to establish secure private communication channels, for the transfer of data, over shared networks such as private intranets or the public internet. Currently, the most popular and state-of–the-art VPNs (virtual private networks) are based on MPLS technology. (For more about MPLS T1, please click here)

MPLS provides any-to-any connectivity over T1 or higher bandwidth. The best MPLS networks are facilitated within the closed systems of specific tier 1 providers. With this scenario, MPLS networks are as secure as point-to-point private lines but far more functional and less expensive. With quality of service (QoS), MPLS networks are extremely well suited for transmitting voice, priority files, multiple location audio or video conferencing, or high quality video transmission. For two location networks, a point-to-point private line continues a bit less expensive than a MPLS network. However, point-to-point lines are not normally managed by providers, so with point-to-point lines, obtaining customer premise equipment, and configuring and maintaining the equipment is the responsibility of the end user. For multiple location networks, or two location networks which you know will increase in number of locations, MPLS can be far more functional, and far less expensive than a network comprised of point-to-point lines. In most cases, full T1 or DS3 MPLS networks are provided with all needed hardware and installation, configuration and management of the network by the provider for about the same cost, or just slightly more, per location, than managed internet service. Managed MPLS T1 networks are pretty much turn key for the end user. As the authorized sales agents for the top 20 telecom providers in the country, we can provide free comparative quotes for completely managed MPLS T1 networks for any locations in the US, regardless of the bandwidth needed at each location. We can also provide quotes for international MPLS networks. (Click here to return to top of page)

Is OC3 Right for Your Company?

Written by: Dennis Green - Sep 8, 2008

OC3 circuits carry a bandwidth of 155.5 Mbps. OC3 (optical carrier) is the equivalent of three OC1s; each OC1 carries 51.85 Mbps. OC3 facilitates Voice over IP (VOIP), hosting web sites for very large companies, streaming audio and/or video, or video conferencing. OC3 carries enough bandwidth to supply most internet service providers. OC3 is often far more bandwidth than most companies need. For maximum efficiency and reduced cost, other options include: T1 (1.54 Mbps), fractional t1 (less than 1.54 Mbps), integrated T1 (combination of voice and data), bonded T1 (multiple T1 lines), burstable DS3 (T3), T3 (45 Mbps), or integrated T3 (DS3). Each of the services listed above has unique advantages. Which product is best suited for your company depends on your bandwidth applications and projected usage patterns. To check availability and/or pricing for any of the above mentioned service, please use the pricing tool at the top of this page. It’s easy to use, free, and without obligation.
